HUNGRY AND HOMELESS

It is only 8:00 pm but it feels like midnight to this 8 year old child. It is hard to tell the difference when you are living in a poorly lite homestead shack where there is no electricity and the only light comes from a kerosene lamp. Time seems to drag on for this child as he is laying on his bed with his stomach growling. Dinner was a mayonnaise sandwich, it was a great blessing to have mayonnaise tonight. If I can just fall asleep he thinks to himself tomorrow will be another school day. This is one child who didn't want to miss school for any reason, even though he had to make about a mile and a half trek through the desert to get to the bus stop. School was a way out of the depression of the dingy little shack where he would also get a free lunch. (to be continued)
This is a true story and that child was me about 40 years ago, it doesn't seem that long ago and when I look back we were very Blessed to have the little homestead shack to live in. Homeless and hungry people were a reality then and are now, ten fold.
